  • Casablanca (Classic romance story.)
  • Jaws (If you haven’t seen it, you’ve definitely heard the music. Monster movie)
  • Up (One of Pixar’s finest. An old man and a young boy scout go on an adventure in a flying house)
  • Little Miss Sunshine (Clever, funny, and thoughtful ensemble road movie)
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones written by Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Steven Spielberg)
  • Thelma & Louise (Road movie starring Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis)

John’s TV Picks:

  • Atlanta (Donald Glover is incredible)
  • Babylon Berlin (Subtitles only—not dubbed)
  • The End of the F***ing World (Dark comedy limited series that was so good it got a new season anyway)

Alexie’s Movie Picks:

  • Arrival (The most original alien movie, ever. Following Amy Adams, who has to try to decode the alien language)
  • Inside Out (Pixar at its finest. Heart-warming story about the “voices” in our heads)
  • Juno (Ellen Page’s big break. Quirky indie about a pregnant teenage girl)
  • Mean Girls (Tina Fey’s masterpiece and one of the iconic, hilarious high school stories of the 2000s.
  • Short Term 12 (Favorite film, ever. Indie right before Brie Larson, Rami Malek, and Kaitlyn Dever rocketed to stardom)
  • Winter’s Bone (Jennifer Lawrence’s big break. Indie about a girl in the Ozarks who has to find her missing father)

Alexie’s TV Picks:

  • Gentleman Jack (True story of a land-owning woman in the 1800s who recorded romantic encounters with other women in a coded diary)
  • Schitt’s Creek (Hilarious Canadian TV excellence, written by and starring the father-son duo, Eugene and Dan Levy)
  • Wynonna Earp (Modern Canadian western following the cursed and badass descendant of Wyatt Earp)

Adam’s Movie Picks:

  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (possibly the world’s only sci-fi romantic drama with thriller elements)
  • Frances Ha (Iconic mumblecore indie starring and written by Greta Gerwig)
  • Get Out (Jordan Peele’s directorial debut. Fantastic horror film that wrestles with racism)
  • Hot Fuzz (Iconic action-comedy film written by the hilarious Simon Pegg)
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel (Peak Wes Anderson )
  • Whiplash (Intense Sundance stand-out starring Miles Teller and J. K. Simmons)

Adam’s TV Picks:

  • Broad City (One of the best series of the 2010s. Started as a web series and follows two Jewish American women in NYC)
  • Sherlock (Love Steven Moffat. Modern Sherlock Holmes starring Benedict Cumberbatch)
  • Mozart in the Jungle (Web series about an oboist who wants to play in the NY Symphony. Shot near NYU!)

Carl’s Movie Picks:

  • A Quiet Place (Powerful, intense thriller/horror film where silence becomes terrifying)
  • How to Train Your Dragon (Dreamworks animation about Vikings, dragons, and adventure)
  • Knives Out (Rian Johnson subverts the typical “whodunit”)
  • The Princess Bride (Frequently-quoted fantasy/comedy/romance cult classic)
  • Toy Story (First computer-animated movie, ever. If you haven’t seen it…. why?!?)
  • V for Vendetta (Made the Guy Fawkes mask the symbol it is today. Dystopian political action thriller)

Carl’s TV Picks:

  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Hilarious show starring Andy Samberg that takes place in a Brooklyn police precinct)
  • Game of Thrones (Epic series with dragons, sword fights, and a disappointing ending)
  • Parks and Recreation (The origin of the Ron Swanson and “Treat Yo Self” memes
